At the solution treating temperature, 1900 Degree F, Stainless Steel 446 Hex Head Bolts is austenitic but undergoes transformation to a low – carbon martensitic structure during cooling to room temperature. When frequent thermal cycling is involved, Stainless Steel 446 Hex Head Nuts is resistant to about 1850 Degree F, where this transformation is not complete until the temperature drops to 90 Degree F. The high chromium and relatively low nickel content of Stainless Steel 446 Square Bolts provide good resistance to high temperature Sulphur bearing atmospheres.

Stainless Steel 446 Square Nuts has only moderate resistance to carbon absorption and is not suggested for use in highly carburizing atmospheres. Prolonged exposure to the 1100 Degree F – 1600 Degree F temperature range in Stainless Steel 446 Eye Bolts will cause some sigma to form, lowering room temperature ductility and impact resistance.

Stainless Steel 410 Hex Head Bolts is a precipitation hardening martensitic stainless steel designed to have a greater toughness. Stainless Steel 410 Hex Head Nuts is used in applications requiring better corrosion resistance and transverse properties compared to other similar martensitic grades. Strength and toughness desired of Stainless Steel 410 Square Bolts can be altered by temperate range in the heat treatment process. Stainless Steel 410 Square Nuts is a low carbon, non – hardening modification of the general purpose 12 % chromium martensitic stainless steel.

The low carbon and a small alloy addition in Stainless Steel 410 Eye Bolts minimize austenite formation at high temperatures which restricts the alloys ability to harden. Stainless Steel 410 Eye Nuts remain soft and ductile even when rapidly cooled from above the critical temperature.
